Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil,
Producer Cristina Ribeiro is a typical "Carioca girl, good swinging blood".
As founder and president of Be Rio, Cristina's goal is to spread to the world
the marvels of Brazilian culture: the best of its history, music, dance, poetry,
cinema, and arts in general, and to create the wonderful feeling as though you
are in Brazil. Cristina always gives part of her profits to organizations in need.
She believes the art of sharing is the most important of the arts,
and she practices by giving opportunities to many kids, regardless of
their race, beliefs, or financial condition, to learn about the beauty of Brazil.
Cristina Ribeiro has taught a variety of dance forms from the North
and South of Brazil, plus international folkloric dances, for many years. Cristina
spent 15 years working with Globo TV, the most successful TV of Latin America as a
choreographer at the show "Fantastico", Trapalhoes, and many more. She has worked
with Gilberto Gil, Clara Nunes, Nara Leaõ, Gonzaguinha, Emílio Santiago,
Marisa Monte, Valeria Valenssa (Globeleza), Joao Bosco and others. She choreographed
and performed on television, fashion shows, concerts, music festivals, movies, and dance
festivals all over the world, including Europe, North America, and South America.
She was a judge for the San Francisco Carnaval Parade, and collaborates with her
Brazilian dieties.
Cristina incorporates her many years of dance training and
performing into her teaching. Her classes are popular due to her passionate
teaching style. Expertly broken-down, Cristina's choreography is shown in a
non-intimidating way that all people understand. She teaches all over the
Bay Area to students of all ages and backgrounds - as well as teaching workshop
and master classes throughout the country and abroad.
